Adaptec to Showcase New Unified Serial(TM) Solutions for System Builders and Integrators at Intel Developer Forum8 October 2006
Adaptec, Inc. (NASDAQ: ADPT), a global leader in storage solutions, today announced it will showcase the entire line of its Unified Serial solutions including a new, high performance RAID controller built on the latest Intel IOP348 storage processor at the Intel Developers' Forum (IDF) held in San Francisco this week. Unique to Adaptec, Unified Serial Controllers enable system builders to sell a wide range of solutions with a variety of price points using a single storage architecture. With the same Unified Serial Controller, solution providers can optimize for cost-effective nearline storage using Serial ATA (SATA) drives or build high-end solutions that deliver maximum performance and reliability with Serial Attached SCSI (SAS) drives. Integrators also can leverage a variety of advanced RAID data protection options to meet different user requirements like dual drive failure protection (RAID 6), especially critical for solutions that contain many drives or high capacity drives, or performance optimized RAID 5EE, also called hot space. Further, Unified Serial Solutions from Adaptec allow organizations to build storage solutions that utilize the same browser-based Adaptec Storage Manager to optimize RAID data volumes, disk utilization, provisioning, diagnostics and storage expansion. Highlighted Links Adaptec "With our new line of Unified Serial Controllers, Adaptec is in a unique position to offer system builders and integrators the simplicity of dealing with one vendor for multiple solution offerings regardless if those solutions utilize SAS, SATA or SCSI drives," said Tim Connolly, vice president of marketing for the Data Protection Solutions Group at Adaptec. "Our Unified Serial Architecture opens up new opportunities for growth and expansion into new markets. More importantly, however, by choosing Adaptec, vendors are choosing products backed by more than 25 years of experience in mission critical storage environments and the industry's most extensive compatibility and interoperability testing practices." At IDF, Adaptec will be offering live demonstrations of its Unified Serial Controllers in the Digital Enterprise Zone, the SCSI Trade Association booth and the SATA I/O booth. In addition to highlighting the features of its current controllers, Adaptec will provide a "sneak peak" demonstration of a new RAID controller that is being built on the Intel IOP348, a highly integrated storage processor and SAS/SATA I/O controller on a single chip. With a high performance RAID architecture including RAID 6, this new controller is designed to support very high capacity applications and maximize server application performance. Adaptec will team with Xtore to demonstrate the features, functionality and throughput speeds of its Unified Serial Controllers with a pre-release Xtore SAS JBOD enclosure, XJ-SA26-110R-S. Together with Adaptec Unified Serial Controllers, this enclosure supports ten (10) 2.5-inch SAS/SATA drives in a 1U form factor that gives organizations increased performance for bandwidth intensive applications. "Adaptec has led the market in pioneering controllers that utilize a Unified Serial Architecture to give organizations the benefit of both SAS performance and SATA capacity," said Gene Lee, corporate vice president at Xtore. "We are very excited to allow Adaptec to be the first vendor to use our new pre-released XJ-SA26-110R-S SAS JBOD enclosure as a part of their demonstrations. Our combined products will allow attendees to experience the high-performance capabilities that both products offer." About Adaptec Adaptec, Inc.
