Alienware Performance Challenge Scores Big at QuakeCon 200518 August 2005
Alienware awarded Area-51® ALX and Aurora(TM) ALX systems, valued at over $6,000 each, to the two gamers with the highest-performing systems during the popular Alienware Performance Challenge at QuakeCon 2005. With ALX systems and other top Alienware prizes at stake, the Alienware Performance Challenge drew hundreds of gamers to have their systems benchmarked against the systems of other QuakeCon attendees. Alienware, the only system manufacturer to sponsor QuakeCon 2005, separated competitors taking part in the Alienware Performance Challenge into three categories: single-GPU desktop, dual-GPU desktop, and notebook. In both desktop categories, AMD®-based systems achieved the winning benchmark scores. The winners and prizes in each category were:
Single GPU - Amos Pena, winner of an Aurora ALX system with dual NVIDIA® GeForce(TM) 7800 GTX GPUs and an AMD Athlon(TM) FX-57 processor. Dual GPU - Brian McWilliams, winner of an Area-51 ALX system featuring Alienware's Silent Liquid Cooling technology and performance-enhanced hardware. Notebook - Stephen Ballenger, winner of Alienware's new reference-quality ALX 5.1 Speakers Powered by Klipsch and Creative headphones. "I'm thrilled to have won the Alienware Performance Challenge and even more thrilled to receive an Aurora ALX system," said Amos Pena. "Not only do I have bragging rights over my fellow gamers, I also have an incredible gaming system to go along with it."
Alienware awarded exciting prizes to the owners of the systems that received the lowest benchmark scores and also gave away Alienware's sleek, one-of-a-kind full-tower chassis to the system owner who won Quakecon's "Ugliest Case Contest." Gamers whose systems did not measure up to the competition also received give-aways donated by Zboard, Bawls, Creative, and Razer.
"Alienware was built on the passion, technical know-how, and creativity that was tested in the Performance Challenge at QuakeCon," said Brian Joyce, director of marketing for Alienware. "It was gratifying to see that there are other enthusiasts out there who share our love for technology and gaming. It's a shame that we have to wait until next year to do it again, but we look forward to seeing what the challengers come up with."
