AMD Extends Its Enterprise Leadership With New Line Of Professional Client PCs From Fujitsu Siemens Computers

15 July 2005

AMD ( NYSE: AMD ) today announced that Fujitsu Siemens Computers is offering a new line of professional PCs based on AMD Athlon™ 64 processors. The ESPRIMO P and ESPRIMO E series targets business users in small, medium and large enterprises. The full line of ESPRIMO solutions will be available from Fujitsu Siemens Computers in regions including Europe, the Middle East and Africa.

“We worked very closely with Fujitsu Siemens Computers, one of Europe’s premier OEMs, to bring a solution to market that suits the specific needs of business users in enterprises,” said Giuliano Meroni, corporate vice president, Microprocessor Solutions Sector, AMD. “AMD64 technology provides performance, scalability, reliability and security professional users are looking for. AMD’s Cool’n’Quiet™ technology complements Fujitsu Siemens Computers’ efforts in providing solutions that preserve natural resources by significantly reducing the energy consumption of office PCs.”

In addition, the AMD64 architecture is designed to enhance the security of your computing environment by integrating Enhanced Virus Protection* technology enabled by advanced anti-virus features, including those found in the current versions Microsoft® Windows®, Linux, Solaris and BSD Unix.

“Fujitsu Siemens Computers’ new ESPRIMO Professional PC line offers users the highest quality standards and cutting-edge technology,” said Andreas Thimmel, vice president, Business Clients, Fujitsu Siemens Computers. “Manufactured in Augsburg, Germany, the ESPRIMO´s modular and environmentally-conscious design already meets the tough EU requirements for RoHS that have been established. The ESPRIMO E5600 and ESPRIMO P5600, based on the AMD Athlon 64 processor and AMD Sempron™ processor, round out our professional PC offering for business users in small, medium and large enterprises.”

The award-winning AMD64 desktop processors features Cool'n'Quiet technology, an innovative system-level feature that lowers the power consumption of the PC when maximum performance is not needed. A PC with AMD’s Cool'n'Quiet technology enabled will consume less power, and run cooler and quieter on most applications. Recently the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency ( EPA ) awarded AMD’s Cool‘n’Quiet™ technology with an ENERGY STAR® Certificate of Recognition for advancing computer energy efficiency.

About AMD64
AMD64 technology evolves the industry-standard 32-bit x86 architecture to support the demanding 64-bit environment and enables next-generation functionality and productivity today. AMD designed the AMD64 platform to allow end users to enjoy reliable, best-in-class performance on the 32-bit software they own today while preparing for a seamless transition to high-performance 64-bit applications. Direct Connect Architecture helps eliminate the bottlenecks inherent in a front-side bus by directly connecting the processors, the memory controller and the I/O to the central processor unit to enable improved overall system performance and efficiency. Today, more than half the Forbes Global 100 or their affiliates, representing the world’s most competitive industries, now rely AMD64 technology-based systems to run their enterprise applications and break free to new levels of performance. Since the introduction of the AMD64 architecture in 2003, AMD processors have earned more than 80 awards for innovation and performance and the support of more than 2,000 OEMs, hardware and software developers, system builders, and distributors.

*Enhanced Virus Protection ( EVP ) is only enabled by certain operating systems including the current versions of Microsoft® Windows®, Linux, Solaris and BSD Unix. After properly installing the appropriate operating system release, users must enable the protection of their applications and associated files from buffer overrun attacks. Consult your OS documentation for information on enabling EVP. Contact your application software vendor for information regarding use of the application in conjunction with EVP. AMD and its partners strongly recommend that users continue to use third party anti-virus software as part of their security strategy.
