AXIOM Announces the Release of MPSim on AMD Opteron Processor-Based Systems

AXIOM Design Automation, formerly @HDL Inc., today announced the release of a complete SystemVerilog verification environment optimized for the AMD Opteron(TM) processor family. MPSim(TM) is currently the only simulation product offering native integrated testbench, assertion based verification, coverage and debugging capabilities that leverages multi-processor hardware to deliver up to 6x faster verification performance.

Unlike other Electronic Design Automation (EDA) products, architecting the simulation engine to take advantage of Multi-processor capability is unique and challenging. These challenges include (a) event balancing across multiple processors, (b) data coherency and (c) synchronization and communications among processors. "In order to more fully maximize performance, a design has to be partitioned in such away that at every simulation cycle, each processor has balanced event activities. Since the event activity is determined by the test you are running, this is very difficult to predict at compile time," said Badru Agarwala, President and CEO of AXIOM. "Using AXIOM's patent-pending technology, partitioning is done at the run time and not at compile time. MPSim's auto-learn mode can assist in generating an optimal partitioning scheme for each test, providing significant gains in performance."

MPSim is architected to work with Multi-CPU machines as well as clusters such that verification performance and capacity can scale with the number of processors. The overall performance of the verification environment is enhanced by native integration of testbench and assertions. MPSim is currently in production use at customers with leading edge designs including Raza Microelectronics, SiNett and Bay Microsystems.
