Beatnik Audio Solutions Integrated with Freescale Cellular Platform Solutions21 July 2005
Beatnik, Inc., the leading provider of structured audio software solutions for mobile devices, today announced that the Beatnik Audio Engine (BAE) has been licensed by Freescale Semiconductor for inclusion with their comprehensive silicon-to-software platform solutions for mobile phones, mobile entertainment and multimedia products. By providing the Beatnik Audio Engine as a core software component with their chipset platforms, Freescale will be able to offer their phone manufacturer customers key open standard based audio capabilities required in today's multimedia-rich devices whilst minimising the time to market for new products.
The flexible, pure software BAE enables the real time generation of high-fidelity audio by any application on the phone, including polyphonic and realtone ringtones, music clip and download services, multimedia messaging and interactive games. The BAE has been optimised for memory and processor resource constrained environments to ensure that handset manufacturers can enjoy the benefits of validated hardware and software reference designs from Freescale that provide industry-leading audio performance and quality.
"Integrating Beatnik's audio engine into our mobile platform reference designs gives our customers a cost-effective and highly flexible solution that supports current industry standard formats," said Berardino Baratta, director, strategy office, Wireless and Mobile Systems Group, Freescale Semiconductor.
"Freescale's decision to provide the Beatnik Audio Engine as a component in its mobile chipset products means that there is now a low-risk, cost-effective way for mobile phone manufacturers to deliver cutting-edge audio in all types of mass market devices," said Jeremy Copp, Chief Sales Officer at Beatnik. "The collaboration between Beatnik, Freescale and Freescale's customers will enable the mobile entertainment industry to deliver first-class audio services and audio-enhanced applications across the full range of mobile phones."
As a complete audio subsystem, the BAE incorporates a synthesiser, mixer, sample rate converter, linear audio player and support for MIDI, SP-MIDI, XMF, RMF, WAV, MP3, AAC and AMR-WB file formats. This gives users full control over all sounds produced by their mobile phone, allowing full audio personalisation. Beatnik has licensed its BAE technology to industry-leading wireless handset manufacturers and platform providers including Nokia, Motorola, Sony Ericsson, Siemens, Samsung, Panasonic and Sendo.
