Beceem Communications Receives Investments from DoCoMo Capital12 April 2006
Beceem Communications, a leading provider of chipsets for Mobile WiMAX technology, today announced that it has received an investment from DoCoMo Capital, the venture capital investment arm of NTT DoCoMo. The two companies will collaborate to evaluate the performance of Mobile WiMAX and its suitability as a wireless broadband solution.
"The investment from DoCoMo Capital will enable Beceem to benefit from the expertise of one of the world's leading wireless operators, NTT DoCoMo. We are looking forward to a close collaboration that will allow Beceem to expand its leadership in Mobile WiMAX chipsets," said Shahin Hedayat, CEO and Co-founder of Beceem.
"We have chosen to invest in Beceem due to its advanced technology position in wireless technology, especially when it comes to MIMO and smart Antenna techniques. Beceem has been a key contributor to the IEEE 802.16e standards effort and has also been instrumental in defining the Mobile WiMAX profile for the WiMAX Forum(tm). The company has demonstrated its prototype chipsets to leading telecom equipment manufacturers that are developing and deploying Mobile WiMAX solutions, and has announced commercial availability of its Mobile WiMAX terminal chipset.
