Blade Network Technologies Joins Blade.org as Sponsoring Member18 April 2006
Blade Network Technologies (BLADE) today announced its sponsoring membership in Blade.org, an industry community that was started by IBM and is made up of 60 technology leaders. Blade.org was formed to further the development and advancement of blade server technology and to enable IBM BladeCenter partners to test and interoperate their products on the BladeCenter. With its membership in Blade.org, BLADE has strengthened its commitment to an accelerated pace of innovation and collaboration with IBM, including developing products and solutions for the IBM BladeCenter. According to IDC, blade server shipments will grow at a compound annual growth rate of 57 percent through 2009 to reach US$10 billion, making blade servers the fastest growing segment within the server industry. Today, there are more than 20,000 blade server switches shipped to IBM customers that were built by the business unit that is now BLADE, making BLADE a leading switching platform provider for the IBM BladeCenter. (Nortel and Garnett & Helfrich Capital announced on February 13, 2006 the sale of certain assets of Nortel's Blade Server Switch Business Unit (BSSBU) to a new company named Blade Network Technologies, Inc.). BLADE's membership in Blade.org also signifies the strong relationship Blade Network Technologies has forged with IBM. "BLADE's single-minded focus on customer satisfaction has made us the most trusted supplier of networking infrastructure for IBM BladeCenter systems," said Vikram Mehta, president and chief executive officer, Blade Network Technologies. "We believe that by strengthening our relationship with IBM and other Blade.org members, we can offer our customers more integrated solutions to meet their business objectives. With Blade.org, BLADE is looking forward to extending the market for blade systems into new, innovative areas such as Voice over IP, IPTV, Gaming, Security and Virtualization." "As the blade server market continues to grow rapidly, we see an enormous advantage for IBM BladeCenter customers now that Blade Network Technologies' sole focus is on providing innovative network infrastructure for the blade server industry," said Doug Balog, chairman of Blade.org and vice president of IBM BladeCenter. "We look forward to our continued efforts with BLADE, both directly with integrated IBM Ethernet switch offerings and as a fellow innovator in Blade.org, to create customer-valued products and solutions." BLADE is announcing its membership in Blade.org in conjunction with the Server Blade Summit, being held in Garden Grove, California from April 18 to April 20, 2006.
