Blue Coat Introduces New Appliance Hardware Models With 2-3 Times Higher Performance6 September 2006
Blue Coat(R) Systems (Nasdaq: BCSI), the leader in secure content and application delivery, today announced it is releasing new appliance hardware models offering throughput performance increases of approximately two to three times higher than existing models. The new appliances run the same existing Blue Coat SGOS software for WAN optimization and Web security and control. A new add-in card for visibility, control and acceleration of SSL traffic now features a chip that is certified to Federal Information Processing Standards (FIPS) 104-2. "Enterprises and organizations are seeing substantial increases to Web and SSL encrypted traffic," said Steve Mullaney, vice president of worldwide marketing, Blue Coat Systems. "The new Blue Coat SG appliances can double or triple throughput for WAN optimization and Web security and control. In addition, the new SSL cards utilize the FIPS 104-2 compliant chip and accelerate SSL processing at the gateway or over the WAN." Performance increases in the new models are the result of faster CPUs, greater memory and overall system improvements. The models offer more memory capacity than comparable current models and many of them offer larger disk space with the option for even greater disk space. The new hardware appliances also are designed to conform to the RoHS environmental requirements of the European Union, also known as EU Directive 2002/95/EG. The new models are immediately available. U.S. list prices begin at $2,600 for branch office deployments and range up to $156,000 for large data centers and high-capacity Internet gateways.
