Broadbus Demonstrates Network-Based Time-Shifting of Live Television at CableLabs(R) Winter Conference1 March 2006
CableLabs(R) Winter Conference -- Broadbus Technologies, Inc., the leading provider of technology solutions for Television on Demand (TOD(R)), today demonstrated a network-based solution for pausing, fast-forwarding and rewinding live television using existing digital set top boxes. With Broadbus Time-Shifted TV, communications service providers can provide digital subscribers with greater control over their live television experience without the need for investment in additional customer premises equipment such as Personal Video Recorders (PVRs). The current linear broadcast model does not offer the flexibility needed for viewers who want to watch content on their own terms. Communications service providers can use Time-Shifted TV to define flexible viewing windows for all broadcast programs-increasing subscriber satisfaction and greatly reducing the potential for customer churn. "Broadbus Time-Shifted TV blurs the lines between VOD and live broadcasts by bringing the convenience and control consumers have come to expect from VOD to live television," said Tom Kennedy, Sr. Director of Marketing at Broadbus. "Service providers can increase revenues and subscriber satisfaction while reducing customer churn by delivering Time-Shifted TV solutions and other innovative video services. Broadbus is unique in its ability to provide VOD and advanced services such as Time-Shifted TV from the same infrastructure." The CableLabs Winter Conference demonstration highlighted the unique capabilities of the Broadbus B-1 Video Server, which include the ability to: * Simultaneously ingest, store, and stream hundreds of channels of live television; * Support ultra-high concurrency rates; and * Provide carrier-class reliability. The Broadbus B-1 Video Server is the only 100% solid-state, carrier-class solution for the delivery of on-demand video services. The platform's revolutionary solid-state architecture completely eliminates the use of mechanical hard drives for video streaming and ingest, instead leveraging the intelligent management of massive amounts of random-access memory and an integrated switching fabric. The result is unparalleled performance, reliability, scalability and cost-effectiveness for VOD and advanced on-demand services. About Broadbus Broadbus develops fully scalable, next-generation video on-demand server systems designed to solve streaming scale, space, power consumption and live ingest issues for communications service providers deploying advanced video services such as VOD, Subscription VOD, and ultimately, full-scale Television On-Demand (TOD). Broadbus offers a migration path to the emerging TOD environment, while fully exploiting existing upgraded broadband networks. The company's revolutionary server architecture, based on the intelligent configuration and management of massive amounts of random-access memory, enables service providers to offer their subscribers unparalleled convenience, choice, and control over their home entertainment. Broadbus was selected by Red Herring for inclusion into its annual list of Top 100 Private Companies, named for the second consecutive year to CED Magazine's Broadband 50, awarded Product of the Year by the Massachusetts Network Communication Council and listed as a finalist for Best Innovation in two categories for the first annual On-Demandies(TM) awards hosted by Digital Hollywood.
