Buffalo Enhances Its DriveStation Line of USB Hard Drives

14 November 2006

Buffalo Technology, a global leader in the design, development and manufacturing of wired and wireless networking, storage, multimedia and memory solutions today announced it has expanded its line of DriveStation USB 2.0 Hard Drive solutions to include the DriveStation Combo USB 2.0 / FireWire External Hard Drive. The product is immediately available in capacities of 250GB (HD-HC250IU2), 320GB (HD-HC320IU2), 500GB (HD-HC500IU2) and 750GB (HD-HC750IU2).

Designed for any home or office computer environment, the new DriveStation Combo is an easy to install and use storage device that connects to any device with an available USB or FireWire connection, including desktop or notebook PCs, Apple Macs or one of Buffalo's NAS devices (LinkStation or TeraStation). It is designed to allow users to protect and manage digital content such as music, photos or videos or business-critical data files. The product incorporates a high performance 7200-RPM SATA (Serial ATA) drive, which allows it to provide better performance, up to 20% faster than traditional IDE based devices. The DriveStation Combo also includes Buffalo's unique Windows(r) SecureLockWare software, which encrypts and protects data stored on the device in the event it is lost or stolen.

"The proliferation of digital content in the home and office leads to the demand for versatility, usability and functionality in a storage solution," stated Morikazu Sano, senior vice president of global marketing at Buffalo Technology. "Our new DriveStation Combo gives users a choice in the amount of storage they need while supporting a variety of applications and the two most popular plug-and-play hardware interfaces, which makes the product very easy to use and transport between computers, regardless if they're Windows(r) or Mac."

The DriveStation Combo USB 2.0 / FireWire External Hard Drive is Windows and Macintosh compatible and includes Auto Setup technology, which allows for instant installation without the need to install drivers. It is also pre-formatted for immediate use. Its AutoPower feature allows it to turn on when a PC or Mac is turned on, and off when the PC or Mac is turned off, thus reducing power usage. The fanless and silent DriveStation contains a unique Heat Sink chassis for cooling and an optional fan can be added for additional cooling and extending product life. The DriveStation also comes with Memeo(tm) AutoBackup multi-language backup software for Windows, which runs in the background and automatically backs up files from your PC.

Backed by a limited one-year warranty and toll-free 24/7 technical support, the DriveStation Combo USB 2.0 / FireWire External Hard Drive is immediately available at estimated street prices of $179 for the 250GB (HD-HC250IU2); $199 for the 320GB (HD-HC320IU2); $289 for the 500GB (HD-HC500IU2) and $579 for the 750GB (HD-HC750IU2). The product is available via retail outlets, resellers and Buffalo's web site.
