Executives from Transitive, Intel Deliver C3 Plenary Address18 May 2006
Executives from Transitive and Intel will be on hand at C3, the Corporate Channel and Computing Expo, to deliver the plenary address on Tuesday, June 27 at 1:30 p.m., which is entitled: Hardware Virtualization for Enterprise IT: Dramatically Reducing Barriers to Server Migration. The second annual C3 takes place June 27-29 at the Jacob Javits Convention Center in New York. Bob Wiederhold, CEO and president of Transitive Corporation and Lisa Graff, general manager of Server Platform Management at Intel Corp will address the changing environment for IT professionals who must continually weigh and balance the gains and risks associated with keeping pace with technology while maintaining constant and efficient workflow for its end users. In this plenary address Wiederhold and Graff will discuss how lowering the Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) of IT infrastructure is usually high on the list of IT group priorities and how migrating to new server platforms that are easier to support, offer better price/performance, consume less power, and take up less space in the data center is often a primary strategy to achieving lower TCO. However, migrating in-house and commercial software applications to new servers is often a huge obstacle and can delay migration projects by years due to the time and resources required to port the software to the new platform Wiederhold and Graff will describe how new hardware virtualization technologies are rapidly maturing that can dramatically lower software migration obstacles; breakthroughs in dynamic binary translation make it possible to run applications compiled for one OS and processor on a server with a completely different OS and processor without requiring any source code or binary changes. More importantly, these translated applications run with remarkably high performance, complete functionality, and are completely transparent to the end-user. As more OS/processor combinations are supported and the technology becomes mainstream, the use of this new breed of translation technology should dramatically change the dynamics of enterprise software and hardware migration. Bob Wiederhold joined Transitive Corporation in 2002 as CEO and president and brings more than 20 years of software-related, high technology experience to the company. Until 2001, Bob served as President and CEO of Tality Corporation, the worldwide leader in electronic design services and held several executive general management positions at Cadence Design Systems, Inc. Most recently, Bob served as an Entrepreneur in Residence at Benchmark Capital, a leading venture capital firm in Silicon Valley. Lisa Graff is the General Manager of Server Platform Management in Intel's Digital Enterprise Group where she is responsible for the platform product lines for the Xeon and Itanium processors. Prior to this role she was the director of the Itanium Worldwide Ramp, responsible for managing the ramp up of the Itanium 2 processor, marketing, promotion, software enabling, and sales. About C3 Successfully launched in 2005, C3 brings corporate and channel buyers together with the industry's premier technology manufacturers. The C3 audience was comprised of nearly 10,000 enterprise professionals from the fields of business, finance, government, retail and education. C3 is produced by H.A.
