Fastest Mobile Network Now Ready in Muskoka and Lake Simcoe, Ontario Cottage Country25 May 2006
Bell Canada, today announced that its EVDO (Evolution Data Optimized) high-speed wireless data network is now available to residents and cottagers in Lake Muskoka, Lake Joseph, western Lake Rosseau, Bala, Port Carling and Gamebridge, Ontario. Area residents and visitors can now enjoy the benefits of Bell's third-generation (3G) wireless network, related products and services through unprecedented data download speed of up to 2.4Mbps. "EVDO is the leading edge of wireless technology and Bell Canada has brought its high-speed data network to Cottage Country such as Muskoka and Lake Simcoe- the perennial playgrounds for tourists, cottagers and residents," said Jim Jaques, Senior Vice President, Bell Mobility. "Now, staying on top of and catching up with the activities back at the office is as easy as going to the end of the dock and connecting wirelessly to the fastest mobile data network available." With the rapid growth and ease of access to powerful wireless mobile networks, the cottage is now a business-ready location for telecommuting. More and more people are becoming remote workers and are taking business with them to their cottage retreats. With Bell's EVDO data network, users will be able to work from the comfort of their deck chairs with access to the same technological luxuries and desktop applications found at the office. Users can easily connect to the office or home remotely and download large spreadsheets and PowerPoint presentations at speeds comparable to wired high-speed networks. In fact, with EVDO, a one-megabyte file can take just 20 seconds to download, compared to two minutes on traditional networks. Furthermore, access to Bell's wireless EVDO data network will also impact many local businesses. As one example, a real estate agent driving a customer past their "dream house" can instantly access the property's data via MLS and share it with their client. Customers are becoming more demanding and with Bell's EV-DO data network, real estate agents will be able to service their clients faster than ever before. Bell Mobility currently also offers its customers high-speed wireless data network access in Vancouver, Whistler, Calgary, Edmonton, Brandon, Winnipeg, Toronto, Hamilton, Burlington, Oakville, Ottawa, Quebec City, Mont-Tremblant and Montreal making Bell Canada the only carrier in Canada offering the fastest high-speed mobile wireless service in all regions of Canada.
