Genzyme Uses Job Scheduler to Streamline BI for Financial Reporting

17 December 2005

Tidal Software, a leading provider of
application scheduling and performance management software, today announced
Genzyme Corporation (NASDAQ: GENZ) has chosen Tidal Enterprise
Scheduler™ for job scheduling. Genzyme is a biotech leader with annual
revenues exceeding $2B. In order to better track and understand key
aspects of its business so it can navigate growth, Genzyme is launching an
enterprise business intelligence (BI) initiative. Proper job scheduling is
playing a vital role in the success of the initiative.

"We had a very real challenge," explains Tom Fontanella, Associate
Director, Information Technology at Genzyme Corp. "In order to support our
growth goals we needed to gain better information about our business. We
realized that the BI solution could be enhanced to support those goals if
we could improve its access to various data across disparate systems and
enable it to process that data into meaningful intelligence faster."

Populating the data warehouse requires accessing many data sources having a
wide range of system dependencies. Deciding to tackle the challenge at the
processing level using better job scheduling, Genzyme and Informatica
(NASDAQ: INFA) teamed with Tidal Software to combine Tidal Enterprise
Scheduler with the Informatica data warehouse solution in order to improve
the overall speed and efficiency of its BI operations.

Genzyme wanted a scheduling product that would operate well in its existing
environment and provide an easy interface. Genzyme also considered
recommendations from customers, analysts and its partners. Genzyme
concluded that Tidal Enterprise Scheduler was the best fit to their
criteria, having required track record, simplicity of operation, and
connectivity to Informatica.

"Tidal Software was the clear choice," said Fontanella. "Genzyme plans to
leverage Tidal Enterprise Scheduler across our operations and we believe it
will proliferate quickly as potential users discover the simplicity and
helpful functionality."

Fontanella and his team also concluded that efficiently scheduling batch
processes in its heterogonous environment would not only improve its BI
operations, but could also automate many routine tasks. As the organization
builds expertise, Fontanella sees Tidal becoming an efficient single
control point for IT operations across the enterprise.

"We are pleased with Genzyme's selection of Tidal for the rollout of their
enterprise-wide BI solution. This not only shows the value Tidal brings,
but the leverage it creates by pairing with Informatica," said Rod Butters,
Senior Vice President of Worldwide Marketing for Tidal Software. "Tidal
will continue to team with Genzyme in the future to help implement
Enterprise Scheduler into the various departments to further simplify their
day-to-day processes."
