In addition, select models of the desktops available via HP's configure-to-order program offer the option of AMD Athlon™ 64 X2 or Intel® Pentium® D dual-core processors.( 1 ) Dual-core processors enable true multitasking - busy students or other users can simultaneously burn a CD, check email, edit a digital photo and run virus protection.
Other highlights include models with the Microsoft Windows® XP Media Center Edition 2005 operating system available at a lower price,( 2 ) a Google toolbar integrated into Microsoft's Internet Explorer, security features in HP Organize and Compaq Organize, and PC Tune up, which consists of free online classes, demos and step-by-step instructions to help customers keep their computers running smoothly.
In addition, bundled HP ImageZone software offers a complete digital photography solution while LightScribe direct disc-labeling technology enables consumers to burn CD and DVD labels using the PC's recordable drive.( 3 )
The desktops also include one full year of award-winning HP support. Earlier this month, the company's support received an "excellent" rating in a survey of the high-tech industry by the Customer Respect Group ( CRG ), an international research and consulting firm. In another recent survey of the 100 largest U.S. companies by CRG, HP received top marks in how well it treats customers online.
HP also announced a 21-inch widescreen flat panel monitor, the first of its size available from HP. The HP f2105 21-inch Wide Flat Panel includes HDTV compatibilities, side-by-side document viewing and USB 2.0 ports for quick connections to other USB-enabled devices.
"Students and families are demanding more bang for their PC buck, whether it's a tricked-out Media Center PC in the dorm or a value-priced second PC for the home," said Mark Sanchez, vice president, North America Consumer Computing, HP. "As the worldwide leader in consumer PCs, HP understands the various needs of our customers and delivers a broad portfolio of PCs without skimping on essentials, like one full year of tech support and 24x7 phone support."
