PSCs PowerScan Imagers Capture Frontline 2004
PSC Inc., an international data-collection technology and services provider, announces immediate availability of its PowerScan® Imagers. The new imagers bring 2D label reading and image capture capabilities to the most rugged, ergonomic line of industrial bar code scanners on the market. The imaging technology has the ability to capture 1D and 2D label images, similar to that of a digital camera. The new models include PSC’s PowerScan® PDF Imager and the PowerScan® 2D Imager.
“The new PowerScan Imagers not only offer 1D and 2D label capture technology, but are also designed for harsh and challenging supply chain environments,” says Rusty Hastings, director of Scanner Product Marketing for PSC. “These are particularly ideal for, manufacturing, warehousing, distribution and transportation.”
The new Imagers feature omni-directional label reading, which reduces scanner orientation while improving productivity and ergonomics. In comparison, traditional laser barcode scanners require specific label and scanner alignment. “PSC’s PowerScan handhelds are known for their ruggedness and durability,” Hastings continues. “The new imagers feature the added benefit of industry-leading ergonomic functionality and improved productivity.”
The PowerScan PDF Imager model reads, omni directionally, all standard 1D labels and stacked 2D labels like PDF417, RSS and composites. The PowerScan 2D model has the added capability of reading matrix 2D labels as well as postal codes and OCR fonts. [http://www.psc.com/html/powerscan.htm]
All PowerScan Imager models are also capable of capturing images such as signatures. In an effort to combat forgeries, pharmacies, for example, can electronically capture images of prescription forms, signatures, and even driver’s licenses. Other examples include the ability for shipping companies to record pictures of freight damage or to capture customer signatures for delivery receipts.
According to Venture Data Corporation, unit shipments of 2D imaging handheld scanning devices will outpace handheld scanner unit shipments. In a research report released August 2004*, VDC reported that unit shipments of 2D imaging handheld scanning devices will experience a 26.6% compound annual growth rate (CAGR) through 2008 while all handheld scanner unit shipments increase at a 9.3% CAGR. The report encompassed lasers, pen/wand scanners, linear imagers and 2D imagers.
PSC will be conducting live demonstrations of the PowerScan® Imagers at Frontline Solutions in Chicago, September 13-15, 2004. The PSC Pavilion is located at booth number 1108 at Chicago’s Navy Pier.
