IBM Partners With German Construction Company to Simplify IT Infrastructure7 December 2005
IBM today announced that Schwenk Zement KG, a leading German manufacturer of cement and construction goods, has achieved a dramatic reduction in the time to support business-critical processes, including ordering and delivery, financial accounting, controlling, warehousing and staff management following the implementation of its new IBM TotalStorage DS8100, increasing production transactions by six times. Schwenk Zement KG provides cement for houses, public buildings, blast furnaces, chimneys and nuclear power station cooling tower and currently processes more than 15 million transactions per day.
Aiming to create a more powerful and single source of information for its internal processes and touchpoints, one of the leading cement company worked with IBM Business Partner Fritz & Macziol (FUM) to integrate a new information on demand solution. The client integrated its processes by creating a configuration that includes business process handling on the IBM eServer z890 system running an SAP R3 applications and an IBM DB2 Universal database. The server is connected to the IBM TotalStorage DS8100, which houses about 11 terabytes of data.
"We valued the ability for one company to provide a solution that could help us deliver our information more efficiently," said Gerhard Kaminski at Schwenk Zement KG. "The combination of IBM's servers, storage and software helped us create a system that will allow us to respond to rapid business changes and prepare us for future growth."
IBM Business Partner FRITZ & MACZIOL developed a conception for the configuration of the new IT infrastructure. "As the customer's demands on their systems increased, we needed to find a solution that would perform with speed and scalability," said FRITZ & MACZIOL Account Manager, Michael Dürr.
Information on Demand
The desire by businesses to access, manage and deliver information more efficiently is driving rapid change in the IT marketplace. Traditional low-tech, hardware-only approaches by proprietary vendors are meeting with resistance as companies grappling with new government mandates and business demands strive to capture and integrate information in a more seamless, real-time fashion across the enterprise. IBM's information on demand approach combines deep business insight with open standards, advanced storage systems, sophisticated systems management software and leading information management software to create efficient, cost effective and flexible information infrastructures. Regardless of the industry, IBM helps companies transform data into insight to enable information on demand.
