IBM: Serving the Golden Tax Project With State of the Art pSeries UNIX Servers

IBM has won the final bid in a government
procurement for the purchase of UNIX® systems by the State Administration
of Taxation for the Provincial UNIX Platform Project, benefiting from the
superior cost-performance ratio of the state of the art IBM eServer p5
servers.

The State Administration of Taxation will purchase a number of IBM eServer
p5 UNIX servers for the taxation system's province-level Data Center
Consolidation, replacing products of IBM competitors. Winning this bid has
furthered IBM's commitment to a long term, strategic partnership with the
national taxation administration.

The Third-Phase Golden Tax Project marks a new achievement for the
modernization of China's taxation system. The overall objective of the
project, as detailed by the State Administration of Taxation and as part of
the guiding principle of integration, is "One Platform, Two-Stage
Processing, Three Coverages & Four Systems." In line with this, an
application system platform based upon a uniform tax specification will be
established in 4 to 5 years.

The State Administration is the central tax authority, and is supported by
tax bureaus at provincial levels. These bureaus process information in a
highly centralized way through the WAN of the taxation system. The design
of this information management system will take into consideration the
requirements of tax authorities at various levels.

The servers to be used in the Third-Phase Golden Tax Project will be the
IBM eServer p5 595 and the IBM eServer p5 570. Using an advanced 64-bit
POWER5 processor, the IBM eServer p5 595 ranks number one amongst all other
servers with an astonishing 3,210,540 tpmC on the TPC-C benchmark.(1)

To operate the national taxation information system, the State
Administration of Taxation will have these sophisticated UNIX systems
installed in its headquarters, as well as in its branches in over 30
provinces and municipalities. In the next 4 to 5 years, the IBM p5 servers
will form the backbone of the Third-Phase Golden Tax Project, serving the
taxation of China.

With much experience in this field, IBM has long been serving China's
national and local taxation authorities with much success.
