IBM Wins Army JAG Contract17 March 2006
IBM today announced it won a contract with theU.S. Army's Office of the Judge Advocate General (JAG) to provide technicalsupport and project-management services to improve the agency's delivery oflegal services, boost computing capacity and reduce overall costs. The award, made under the Army's Information Technology EnterpriseSolutions - Enterprise Mission Support Service Solutions (ITES-EMS3)contract, is worth a potential $7.4 million over five years. ITES allows for rapid, cost-effective procurements by allowing governmentagencies to select goods and services from certain pre-qualified vendorsthrough a vehicle known as Multiple Award Indefinite Delivery/IndefiniteQuantity (ID/IQ) contract. The Judge Advocate General's Corps provides legal services for soldiers,retirees and their families. It also provides prosecutors and defenseattorneys in criminal trials under the Uniform Code of Military Justice. IBM's federal consulting unit, based in Bethesda, will provide consultingservices to help JAG revamp its entire IT suite. The agency expects tobetter manage its case load, improve the speed and quality of legal serviceto Army customers and provide faster help-desk support. IBM also will help JAG integrate existing computing systems for improvedoperation, develop new business applications and improve the agency'snetwork performance. CIBER, Inc.'s Federal Outsourcing Division of McLean, Virginia, willprovide project management and software maintenance services with itssystems support professionals. The work will be performed at the JAG'soffice in Arlington, Va. JAG expects the new system will reduce routine IT maintenance costs andboost systems performance.
