Intersil Introduces New Family of Highly Integrated, Low-Power Real Time Clocks for Consumer and Industrial Applications26 April 2006
Intersil Corporation (NASDAQ: ISIL), a worldleader in the design and manufacture of high-performance analog solutions, todayintroduced a new family of real time clocks that integrate 4kbits oferasable programmable read only memory (EEPROM) (2.0 million write cycles)and CPU supervisory functions, in a small footprint package designed forspace-constrained applications.
Intersil's ISL12026/27/28/29 family features low power dissipation (800nA batterysupply current) in battery back-up mode, enabling the use of smallbatteries or super caps for back-up, critical in handheld applications. TheISL12027, ISL12028 and ISL12029 also integrate CPU supervisory functions,providing board space savings by eliminating the need for discrete devicesfor power-on reset and watchdog timer.

Reliability, Low Power and Integration
The combination of low power, high integration and very small footprintmakes these new RTCs ideal for consumer applications such as DVDR (DVDrecordable) and HDTV devices, point-of-sale (POS) systems and otherconsumer electronics devices. Industrial applications include utilitypower meters, heating, air conditioning, ventilation and other industrialequipment. The devices can also be used in handheld applications such asPDAs, scanners, portable medical equipment and other handheld devices.Other applications include HVAC, power metering, security, fire monitoringand other security-related systems.

Intersil's new family of real time clocks is available now. The ISL12026and ISL12027 are housed in 8-pin small outline and TSSOP packages. Pricesfor the ISL12026 start at $1.40 for SO and $1.45 for the TSSOP package;prices for the ISL12027 are $1.65 in SO and $1.70 for TSSOP package. TheISL12028 and ISL12029 are available in 14-pin SO and TSSOP packages, andare priced at $1.80 for SO and $1.85 for the TSSOP package. All prices arefor 1,000-unit quantities.
