IRN Payment Systems Selects Hypercom T7Plus for Free Merchant Terminal Program8 October 2005
Hypercom Corporation (NYSE: HYC) announced today that its T7Plus credit/debit card terminal has been selected for use in a free merchant equipment program being launched this week by IRN Payment Systems, a provider of payment processing products and services sold through Independent Sales Organizations (ISOs). IRN expects to purchase the terminals over the next 12 months for free placement in merchant locations by its ISO partners, providing a competitive new merchandising tool to help affiliated ISOs expand their customer base. IRN is the first organization to adopt Hypercom product for a free terminal program, and the first to use a new Hypercom software application developed specifically to support free equipment initiatives. The software protects an ISO's terminal population from competitor reprogramming in order to aid merchant retention and assist ISOs in recouping free terminal placement costs. The software also simplifies ISO management by eliminating the need to maintain separate inventories for free and standard terminal stock. IRN has also named Hypercom as its preferred terminal vendor. The payment processor will offer the entire Hypercom product portfolio to its ISO sales associates, ranging from PIN pads to the new IP-enabled Optimum T4100 multi-application card payment terminal. More than 20,000 merchants currently utilize IRN solutions. "Hypercom's T7Plus is a workhorse terminal with a full range of features, a reputation for reliability, and now the protection an ISO needs against 'slamming'. That makes it an attractive platform for our new free equipment program," said Tom Della Badia, Vice President, IRN. "At the same time, we have seen the capabilities of Hypercom's other products and the loyalty of the installed customer base through years of selling their line, and we are endorsing them as our terminal provider of choice given the significant technology and reliability advantages they offer to ISOs and end users." "IRN's market presence is considerable, and their selection of our T7Plus for their free equipment program validates the competitive benefits of our 'lockdown' software," said Lisa Shipley, Senior Vice President, National Sales, Hypercom North America. "This is a strong partnership that is expected to immediately drive new revenues and also open the door to adoption of our products by other organizations that may be planning similar free terminal initiatives." Hypercom's T7Plus is a compact countertop POS terminal that accepts all magnetic stripe cards, delivers fast authorization of online transactions, provides "One-Touch" shortcut keys that speed operation, and includes a built-in printer that generates receipts in half the time of earlier generation devices. The printer loads easily with a special drop-in technique that eliminates the need to feed paper through slots and rollers, operates virtually jam-free, and supports long paper rolls to reduce paper changes. It is the successor to the company's T7P, one of the industry's most successful payment terminals with 3 million units sold. For IRN's free terminal program, the T7Plus units will be configured to support credit, debit, EBT, gift card and loyalty card transactions as well as IRN's proprietary Paid On Signing 9-second real-time check debit processing solution. The IRN program gives ISOs a $100 signing bonus for each free terminal they place plus a 60% share of transaction revenues, with no minimums or quotas.
