Launch of "DIY" data backup

24 February 2006

The statistics surrounding data backup are grim. 40 per cent of small to medium-sized businesses don't regularly back up their files, and half of all attempted recoveries fail because of errors in the backup process. Natural disasters like Hurricane Katrina spelled the permanent end of at least 40 per cent of all small businesses in the New Orleans area.

Recovering data quickly and completely is the key to a company getting back to business, according to Norman Friend, President of Condor IT Solutions, developer of DataVault.

"Data backup has no value if your files can't be recovered immediately. What many business people don't realize is that most of their data stored on back up tapes is unrecoverable, or so difficult to recover that it can take days or even weeks. By that time a company is often out of business," said DataVault's Norman Friend.

DataVault is an automated data backup and recovery system that recovers files lost in a computer crash or other disaster, salvaging data quickly and completely. DataVault restores files completely and error free in minutes, not hours or days. It also restores files without an Internet connection or IT support.

Cliff Sweeney, CEO of Vancouver-based Boughton Law Corporation with more than 100 lawyers and staff, says consumers should consider DataVault as a reliable and inexpensive way to back up their valuable data.

"Backing up everything every night is a massive job. With DataVault, one can just plug it in and go to bed. DataVault was easy to install and didn't require any start up costs or any modifications to our existing system. It offered us ease of use - at a fraction of the cost of other systems," said Boughton CEO Cliff Sweeney.

With DataVault, files are compressed, transferred, and stored in USB Hard Drives that are attached to two shoebox-sized DataVaults. Everything is backed up including emails and attachments. One DataVault is in your office, and a second at a remote location, such as your home.

DataVault is "plug and play" for your data back up, according to Norman Friend. "It's the democratization of back up. You can have the DataVault system up and running in a matter of hours, without expensive IT providers or the ongoing expense of hardware, tapes or CDs."

"I soon learned first hand the value of DataVault as my system crashed a few weeks after the program was installed," said Gwen Turpin, owner of South Granville Business Services, a Vancouver accounting firm. "I was able to easily recover my data within minutes, and I didn't have any downtime whatsoever."

DataVault clients also have a backup of all their software so that the replacement equipment can be loaded with the software, even if the original discs were lost in a server failure, theft or other disaster.

"Fifty per cent of companies that lose all their data go out of business immediately; 90 per cent are forced to close their doors within two years. DataVault is an easy to use, inexpensive system that prevents this kind of disaster," says Norman Friend.

DataVault costs $1,000 to get started, including $500 for a system installation and $500 for two hard drives that you own, plus a $300 monthly fee.

The DataVault backup and recovery system was developed by Condor, a Vancouver based international engineering company that couldn't find an easy to use, cost-effective system backup system, so they built their own. After five years of research and testing the result was DataVault, a system that gets companies back to business, completely and error free, even after the failure of an entire system. Today DataVault is available to anyone who can't afford to lose their data.

"There are dozens of back up systems, but nothing like DataVault," says Norman Friend.

ABOUT DATAVAULT

DataVault is an easy to use, cost-effective automatic data back up and recovery system that gets you quickly back in business after data loss resulting from computer crashes, server failures, hackers, virus attacks, human error, theft, or power outages. All your files are stored on a removable USB hard drive attached to a DataVault. One DataVault is installed at your office and another at a remote location such as your home. This ensures that if your office is inaccessible, your data is still instantly recoverable without the need for an Internet connection or IT support.
