Lenovo-TELUS deal extends Wireless High Speed service to ThinkPad notebook users

Lenovo and TELUS today announced the first Canadian availability of select versions of Lenovo ThinkPad notebook computers with embedded access to TELUS Wireless High Speed (EVDO) service. The new ThinkPad notebooks provide built-in, immediate broadband-like download speeds through TELUS without needing a separate PC card or additional hardware.

"In addition, the enabled notebooks include our new Access Connections 4.1 software that detects the best available network and seamlessly assists the end user with the network connection."

Through this agreement, ThinkPad notebooks will be preconfigured for TELUS' Wireless High Speed service, which delivers typical download speeds of approximately 400 to 700 kilobits per second, and maximum possible speeds of more than 2 megabits per second, which is similar to a wired high-speed broadband connection.

TELUS Wireless High Speed service is currently available in 36 areas across Canada, including all major urban centres. Where TELUS Wireless High Speed service is not available, ThinkPad notebooks can also access the Internet through TELUS 1X digital service which reaches 92 per cent of Canadians.
