After Tuesday's Bell Market Commentary
On Tuesday, a barrel of light crude settled at $61.37 on the New York
Mercantile Exchange. The Federal Reserve raised interest rates for the 13th
time in 18 months a quarter percentage point to 4.25 percent. Investors had
already factored the rate increase into the markets. The Commerce
Department reported retail sales grew 0.3 percent in November. The Dow
Jones industrial average gained 55.95, or 0.52 percent, to 10,823.72. The
Nasdaq composite index advanced 4.05, or 0.18 percent, to 2,265.00. The
Standard & Poor's 500 index rose 7.00, or 0.56 percent, to 1,267.43. The
Russell 2000 index lost 0.51, or 0.07 percent, to 689.03.
