MARKET OVERVIEW
In overseas trading, only six of the 15 markets that we track are showing gains, and the overall average return is -0.205 percent. The FTSE 100 in London is up 0.3 percent, but the CAC 40 in Paris is down 0.2 percent, and the German DAX is down 0.3 percent so far on the day. The Nikkei was the biggest loser, down two percent after hitting a five-year high during the day.
The February gold futures contract fell back 1.39 percent on Tuesday. Copper made a gain of almost two percent but silver slipped back more than three percent. The drama for the day came in platinum trading. You may remember that platinum futures touched the 1,000 level in mid-November, and broke above the key round-number resistance level on November 28. The contract had been looking increasingly comfortable at four-digit levels, but yesterday it slipped back to the support of its 20-day moving average and closed at 995.9, down more than two percent.
Also on Tuesday, natural gas and heating oil futures for January delivery showed gains of 3.62 and 3.61 percent, respectively. In early trading this morning, natural gas is up another half a percent while heating oil has stayed flat.

DYNAMIC MARKET OPPORTUNITIES
For the 13th consecutive time since June 2004, the Federal Reserve decided to raise interest rates again on Tuesday, increasing the rate 0.25% to 4.25%. Of great interest to Wall Street is whether this marks the end of the monetary tightening policy. According to CNN: "Hopes of this were raised by the release of the minutes from the November Fed meeting, in which the bankers discussed preparing financial markets for an end to the hikes. However, recent strong economic data have countered that." In terms of market action, shares of Taser International surged on Tuesday after the company said an SEC investigation into its statements and accounting ended with no recommended action. This comes after the stun gun maker was subjected to a probe about the safety of its products, which were linked to fatalities. It had also been investigated in "connection with a big contract that closed just prior to the end of a financial reporting period and struck some critics as well-timed," according to reports. Elsewhere, Bioenvision Inc said that its study of an experimental leukemia drug showed "encouraging" data for "certain high-risk groups." According to the press release, "an analysis of the first 44 patients in the mid-stage study showed 36 percent of those with a high-risk genetic profile responded to Bioenvision's clofarabine drug. In addition, 56% of patients older than 70 responded to the drug." Internationally, one of the big winners for 2005 is India's Bombay Stock Exchange (Sensex), which has rewarded investors with a 40% jump this year. Continued heavy purchasing of Indian blue chips drove the index to a record high of 9,263.90 points today. China is also enjoying a surge of its own in the export market. The Ministry of Commerce said Tuesday that a 23% jump in foreign trade through the first 11 months of 2005 led to a tripling of the country's trade surplus to US$90.8 billion. The Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) also said that China has now vaulted past the US as the world's biggest exporter of items like computers, mobile phones and digital cameras.

NVIDIA has popped up with a high positive news sraIndex score.
