20 June 2005

Global Technology Conferences, Inc. (GTC) today announced that Dr. Winthrop (Win) W. Smith will deliver a three-day tutorial on the Multi-Core Processor Revolution at GSPx 2005. The tutorial, "Benchmarking Multi-Core Processors based on Processing Throughput," will address the chip level, the software support level and the board/application level. GSPx 2005, the pervasive signal processing event, will take place October 24-27 at the Santa Clara Convention Center in California.

"Multi-core processors are the future, and at GSPx 2005 we will examine in depth the latest technology and what it will take to capture the market," said Dr. Amnon Aliphas, GSPx 2005 conference chair. "We are proud to bring Dr. Win Smith, the recognized leader in multi-core processor technology, to present this important lecture series. Attendees will come away with new insight in this fast-growing field."

The Multi-Core Processor Revolution tutorial will consist of a series of five lectures by Dr. Smith, as well as industry insights from leading companies who will present over the three-day series.

Dr. Smith's career in signal processing spans almost 40 years. He holds 11 major patents and has 3 patents pending. In his current position as an Engineering Fellow at Raytheon, Dr. Smith is responsible for technical contributions and management for research projects and customers studies aimed at providing the next-generation processing infrastructure for the IMINT, MASINT and SIGINT applications. Previously, as founder of Signal Processing Specialists, he developed and sold the first PC-based modem signal generator hardware and software. He has also developed new algorithms while at NCR Microelectronics, Martin Marietta and Westinghouse Aerospace. He holds a Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering from Johns Hopkins University, and is the author of the definitive book The Handbook of Real-Time Fast Fourier Transforms.
