Network Appliance Grows Faster Than Market in Networked Disk Storage Systems7 December 2004
Network Appliance, Inc. (Nasdaq:NTAP) today demonstrated customers' embrace of NetApp(R) solutions by growing faster than the fibre channel storage area network (FC SAN) market as well as the open systems networked storage or Fabric-Attached Storage (FAS) market (1). According to IDC's Worldwide Quarterly Disk Storage Systems Tracker, year over year the company grew revenue in the FC SAN market 95.0%, versus the market growth of 16.3%. The company also grew revenue in open systems networked storage or FAS market with 24.6% year over year growth, versus overall market growth of 17.5% and 2.9% sequential growth, versus an overall market decline of 1.2%. According to IDC, NetApp maintained a strong lead in the iSCSI SAN storage market for the third quarter of 2004 (3Q04). In its core NAS market, NetApp demonstrated continued leadership in NAS hardware for 3Q04 in both revenue and terabytes shipped. Also according to IDC, the company posted a 36.3% revenue market share, with a 13.8% increase in revenue year over year (vs. the third quarter of calendar 2003). "Customers are increasingly turning to NetApp to solve complex data management issues for their tier one, data center, and mission-critical applications. IDC's market figures confirm that trend and chart our clear progress establishing a solid FC SAN business and our leadership in both iSCSI and NAS," said Suresh Vasudevan, senior vice president of Product Management at Network Appliance. "Our enterprise customers expect a high degree of consulting and integration from us, and we have worked hard to deliver and exceed their expectations. By focusing on our customers' needs and ultimately their successes, NetApp can continue to gain market share and partner with our customers to provide complete storage and data management solutions." The market share figures demonstrate that customers continue to demand simple, scalable, and affordable technology for their networked storage requirements and are turning to NetApp for their storage consolidation, data protection, information lifecycle management, regulatory compliance, and business continuance needs.
