New Encryption Solution From Sun Microsystems Sets Bar for Online Application and Transaction Security

16 February 2006

At the RSA Security Conference, Sun Microsystems (Nasdaq: SUNW) today announced the latest in hardware security: the new Sun Crypto Accelerator 6000 (SCA6000) designed as a high-performance Hardware Security Module (HSM) for Sun Fire(TM) servers with a tamper-resistant secure crypto key store. Priced lower than competing HSM products on the market, the SCA6000 offers industry leading performance and internal-to-server HSM capabilities.

The Sun Crypto Accelerator 6000 exceeds FIPS 140-2 Level 3 requirements and enables a new vision for hardware-based cryptographic security by offering an industry-focused solution for Web Services, e-Commerce, Finance and Banking, Government, Retail, Healthcare, ISPs, and Telecommunications. Together with the leading Solaris(TM) Cryptographic Framework, Java(TM) and Sun's latest SPARC- and AMD Opteron(TM)-processor based server lines, customers can now take advantage of the industry's most powerful and advanced computing environments to deploy Sun solutions for their enterprise and mission-critical solutions.

"The SCA6000 is a powerful tool that will be used to prevent attacks on enterprise networks and servers," said Mark Taylor, Director of Engineering, Netra Systems and Networking , Scalable Systems Group, Sun Microsystems. "For Java and C applications, as well as security protocols, cryptographic keys can be securely stored and operated on within the SCA6000's secure key store -- resistant to network, software, insider, and physical attacks."

Offering customers a versatile platform for cost-effective solutions security, the SCA6000 optimizes Sun hardware security and increases secure applications throughput.

The SCA6000 product offers premium features which significantly improve performance and security, including support for:

-- IPsec, IKE, SSL, and other security protocols;

-- A comprehensive set of public key and symmetric crypto algorithms;

-- Secure remote key management as well as a local, direct key management

interface;

-- Split-key quorum key management (M of N);

-- Solaris 10 and Red Hat and SUSE Linux (Linux support available summer

2006);

-- C and Java programs through industry standard APIs;

-- Financial service PIN and credit card validation.

Pricing and Availability in the US

Pricing begins at $1,350. The SCA6000 will be available April 28, 2006.
