New Humax LCD TV Has Seagate Hard Drive for Built-In DVR

2 March 2006

Seagate Technology (NYSE: STX), the world's leading hard drive company, today announced that Humax Co. Ltd. has chosen Seagate's LD25 Series consumer electronics (CE) hard drive for its LCD TV with a built-in digital video recorder (DVR). The adoption of the LD25 series demonstrates how Seagate is continuously enabling compelling new applications in the fast growing Consumer Electronics market. The system will be available in North America, Europe and Australia with screen sizes of 26, 32, and 40 inches.

Seagate's new LD25 Series is the first consumer electronics hard drive in a compact, 2.5-inch form factor designed for non-mobile applications -- an entirely new concept for inside-the-box CE storage that enables smaller, simpler, cooler-running and more cost-effective game consoles, home entertainment devices and small footprint media PCs. Seagate's industry leading DynaPlay technology, available with the LD25 Series, optimizes the hard drive for media streaming, power consumption and content security.

Seagate LD25 Series disc drives also make it possible for hot new game consoles to expand their capabilities far beyond traditional gaming -- to enable them to expand and keep new soundtracks for games, to rip and store entire libraries of music and video, and to play back multimedia, centralizing other entertainment functions with the gaming function.

"Humax and Seagate have had a successful partnership for years as we are both committed to delivering innovative best-in-class products to the fast growing consumer electronics market," said, Bohn H. Koo, director of Global Manufacturing & Procurement Division of Humax Co. LTD. "With Seagate's LD25 Series drives, we successfully loaded storage into this new LCD TV. We have chosen Seagate's LD25 Series because of its superior acoustic levels, efficient power consumption and reliability. This is an important achievement from many aspects, such as from the small form factor and cost factor perspectives."

"As hard drives become increasingly embedded into consumer electronics devices, market leaders such as Humax are validating our approach to the CE market," said Ban Seng Teh, Seagate vice president of OEM and CE Sales for Asia Pacific, Seagate Technology. "The LD25 Series exemplifies how we have achieved leadership in the CE market -- by working closely with leading market innovators to deliver products that are tailored for emerging applications. Our support of these partnerships will continue to extend both before and after the sale Seagate Design Service Centers (DSC) and System Integration Engineering (SIE) Labs."
