Opengear Enters Console Server Management and KVM Over IP Market17 January 2005
Opengear, which plans to introduce the first of multiple products this
year at the LinuxWorld Conference & Expo on Feb. 14-17, 2005 at the Hynes

At LinuxWorld, Opengear will join the likes of Avocent Corp., Cyclades
Corporation, and Digi International to demonstrate its console server
management and KVM over IP solutions.
The open source community is developing new software and hardware
technologies for integrated console and KVM management through the "okvm"
project at okvm.sourceforge.net/.
Opengear is actively supporting this project and its new products embody
the new okvm standards. These solutions are not only a simple, secure and
cost-effective way to configure distributed networks of servers and devices,
but they also serve to enhance the open source community while eradicating the
proprietary stranglehold enforced by digital KVM.
Opengear's management team has an extensive track record of building
successful hardware and software solutions in open source environments.
Opengear's Chairman and CEO, Bob Waldie brings a history of proven
entrepreneurship with open source ventures. Prior to co-founding Opengear,
Mr. Waldie served as CEO and Chairman of SnapGear, a leading developer of
embedded Linux security appliances, which was acquired by CyberGuard in 2003.
Joining Mr. Waldie in the day-to-day operations of Opengear is the
company's President, Tony Merenda. Mr. Merenda, a 20-year veteran of the
computer industry, served as Chief Technology Officer and co-founder of
Stallion Technologies. While with Stallion Technologies, Mr. Merenda
developed innovative data communications, remote access hardware adapters and
network appliances in Linux, Open/FreeBSD and Windows environments.
Tony Merenda and Bob Waldie see a significant opportunity for Opengear.
According to IDC, worldwide revenues for the KVM market are estimated to grow
to $925 million in 2005, up from approximately $725 million in 2004.
