Oracle Announces General Availability of Oracle(R) TimesTen In-Memory Database 6.0

11 October 2005

Oracle
(Nasdaq: ORCL) today announced the general availability of Oracle(R) TimesTen
In-Memory Database Release 6.0, marking the first product upgrade following
the acquisition of TimesTen in June 2005. The release adds significant
enhancements focused on major increases in caching performance and
availability, larger in-memory databases and data caches, tighter integration
with other Oracle products, and broader support of industry standards such as
SQL and Java. With this new release, Oracle now boasts an end-to-end data
management solution spanning real-time, embedded and front-office systems to
large-scale enterprise databases and data warehouses.

To satisfy customer demand for a standards-based solution that helps
ensure data-intensive applications are instantly responsive, highly scalable
and continuously available, Oracle quickly moved to strengthen the integration
of the Oracle TimesTen In-Memory Database as a real-time cache for Oracle
data. Release 6.0 brings together the best of Oracle TimesTen and Oracle
Database to provide customers with an integrated real-time caching and
enterprise data management solution. Now, companies in the
telecommunications, financial services, travel, defense, intelligence
industries, as well as real-time enterprises in other industries with business
intelligence and service-oriented architectures (SOA), can instantly access
data from their most time-sensitive systems -- when milliseconds are
mission-critical.
"With the emergence of such developments as message-based business process
automation (BPA) environments linking business functions in automated flows,
applications are showing a growing requirement for high speed database
management capabilities," said Carl Olofson, Research Director for Information
Management and Data Integration Software Research at IDC. "The rapid
integration of the TimesTen products demonstrates Oracle's commitment to meet
the needs of time-critical applications in a broad and expanding set of
industries."

Key Enhancements Extend Support for High Performance Applications
The new release of Oracle TimesTen 6.0 includes a number of enhancements
that help better manage events, transactions and data for ultra
high-performance applications, including:

-- Caching performance -- Cache update throughput has increased
five-fold, and cache load times have significantly improved
-- Cache availability and resilience -- Cache updates can now be
replicated to provide protection against server failures, and caching
remains operational even when the connection to the Oracle Database
is lost, subsequently resynchronizing automatically when the
connection is restored
-- Tighter integration -- Support for Oracle Database 10g (with TimesTen
Cache Connect to Oracle option) and certification with Oracle
Application Server 10g and other major J2EE application servers
-- Expanded standards support -- SQL and JDBC API additions, JMS support
and Object/Relational mapping certification
-- Large data stores -- Faster loading, refresh, duplication and
recovery of large data stores

"We believe there is broad applicability for standards-based, real-time
data management solutions that are easily integrated into existing
infrastructures and address the needs of numerous vertical markets, as well as
SOA initiatives within the enterprise," said Senior Vice President of Oracle,
Jim Groff. "With the addition of Oracle TimesTen In-Memory Database to
Oracle's world-class database product line, Oracle now offers customers an
end-to-end data management solution second to none."

About Oracle TimesTen In-Memory Database
Oracle TimesTen In-Memory Database is a memory-optimized relational
database that empowers applications with the instant responsiveness and very
high throughput required by today's real-time enterprises and industries such
as telecom, financial services and defense. Deployed in the application tier
as a cache or embedded database, Oracle TimesTen In-Memory Database operates
on data stores that fit entirely in physical memory using standard SQL
interfaces. The base product, Oracle TimesTen In-Memory Database, is also
available with the following two options:

-- Replication -- TimesTen to TimesTen: Enables real-time data
replication between servers for high availability and load sharing.
Data replication configurations can be active-standby or
active-active, using asynchronous or synchronous transmission, with
conflict detection and resolution and automatic resynchronization
after a failed server is restored.
-- Cache Connect to Oracle: Creates a real-time, updatable cache for
Oracle data residing in the application tier. It offloads computing
cycles from backend systems and enables remarkably responsive and
scalable real-time applications. Cache Connect to Oracle loads a
subset of Oracle data into TimesTen, propagates updates in both
directions, automates pass through of SQL requests for non-cached
data and automatically resynchronizes data after failures.

Availability and Pricing
The Oracle TimesTen In-Memory Database product is generally available with
prices ranging from $12,000-$24,000 per CPU, depending on the size of
in-memory data store. Replication -- TimesTen to TimesTen and Cache Connect
to Oracle options are each available for $6,000-$12,000 per CPU, depending on
in-memory data store size. The software is available for download at
