Penguin Computing Recruits HP Executive to Drive Product Development and Management

17 January 2006

Penguin Computing, the leader in dramatically simple Linux clustering, announced today that Pauline Nist joined the company as Senior Vice President of Product Development and Management. Pauline, formerly Vice President of HP's Enterprise, Storage and Servers business unit, brings over 20 years of in-depth experience in the high performance computing (HPC) and enterprise markets to this new position. In her new role, she will be responsible for hardware and software engineering and development, product management and product marketing for the systems, clustering and software segments of Penguin Computing's business, including its flagship Linux clustering software product, Scyld Beowulf(R).

"I have known and worked with Pauline for many years and she is renowned in the industry for designing and bringing to market the most advanced, innovative systems for enterprise computing," said Enrico Pesatori, chairman and CEO of Penguin Computing. "With this kind of experience under her belt, Pauline is the ideal person to help us take our software and systems portfolio to the next level. In fact, the match between our strategic direction, as we continue to drive the benefits of Linux clustering deeper into the enterprise, and her background and operational success could not be better."

Before joining Penguin Computing, Pauline spent the majority of her career to date with HP, Tandem and Digital Equipment Corporation. Most recently with HP, she served as Vice President of Quality for HP's Enterprise Storage and Servers Division and immediately prior to that, as Vice President and General Manager for HP's NonStop Enterprise Division, where she was responsible for the development, delivery, and marketing of the NonStop family of servers, database, and middleware software. Prior to the NonStop Enterprise Division (formerly known as Tandem Computers), Pauline served as Vice President of the Alpha Servers business unit at Digital Equipment Corporation. Pauline started her career at Carnegie-Mellon University as a Senior Programmer Analyst before being promoted to Manager of Communications with responsibility for voice and data communications.

"We are going to see Linux clustering take quantum leaps forward in the very near future as more enterprise level players adopt traditionally HPC- friendly technology," commented Pauline Nist, SVP Product Development & Management, Penguin Computing. "Penguin has a unique advantage with its robust systems combined with its 'secret sauce' -- Scyld Beowulf clustering software -- which dramatically simplifies clustering by making the cluster appear and act like a single virtual system. As a result, Penguin Computing is poised on the cusp of a very big Linux cluster wave and I'm extremely excited to have the opportunity to put my enterprise experience to work for the company to help accelerate its momentum."

Originally from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Pauline holds a bachelor's degree in mathematics and computer science from the University of Pittsburgh and a master's degree in business administration from Clark University. She is a graduate of the Yale University Executive Management Program and Lessons in Leadership at Harvard University. She is a member of the Society of Women Engineers.
