Pointsec Joins Smart Card Alliance

8 November 2005

Pointsec Mobile Technologies, the global leader and the provider of the de facto standard for enterprise security software for laptop and desktop PCs, PDAs and smartphones, today announced that it has joined the Smart Card Alliance, a not-for-profit, multi- industry association working to stimulate the understanding and widespread application of smart card technology. "Sensitive enterprise data can be most vulnerable on mobile devices such as laptops, mobile phones and PDAs. The Pointsec data encryption solution, along with an external device, the smart card, can provide highly secure mobile access to data and prevent hacking," said Randy Vanderhoof, executive director of the Smart Card Alliance. "We look forward to Pointsec's contributions to the Alliance as we continue to educate the enterprise market about the benefits of smart card use in the corporate environment." As a general member, Pointsec will participate in Alliance education programs and conferences, industry councils and market research. They join more than 140 others members representing leading companies in the financial services, computer, telecommunications, healthcare, and retail industries, as well as federal government agencies. Together, these organizations work in an open forum to address the opportunities and challenges that face the smart card industry. "The Smart Card Alliance is driving a new generation of standardized products and solutions based on smart card technology that Pointsec believes is essential to promoting strong endpoint security for mobile computing," said Peter Larsson, CEO of Pointsec. "We are privileged to begin working with other industry leaders who share this vision." More information is available at http://www.smartcardalliance.org. About Pointsec Pointsec is the worldwide de facto standard for mobile device security -- with the most customers deployed, highest level of certification and more complete device coverage than any other company. Pointsec delivers a trusted solution for automatic data encryption that guarantees proven protection at the most vulnerable point where sensitive enterprise data is stored -- on mobile devices. By securing sensitive information stored on laptops, PDAs, smartphones, and removable media, enterprises and government organisations can protect and enhance their image, minimize risk, shield confidential data, guard information assets, and strengthen public and shareholder confidence. Pointsec's customers include blue chip companies and government organisations around the world. Founded in 1988, Pointsec Mobile Technologies AB is a wholly owned subsidiary of Protect Data AB, publicly traded (PROT) on the Stockholm stock exchange. The company has two U.S. offices, nine EMEA offices, two APAC offices and one branch office in Dubai, Middle East. Pointsec can be found on the web at: http://www.pointsec.com.
