Presto Introduces Digital Delivery Service to Help Families Stay Connected24 May 2006
Presto Services Inc. today announced plans to develop a new digital delivery service to help families and friends stay connected by making it easier to share digital content. Presto's debut offering will include the Presto Service and a printing mailbox, developed by HP, designed primarily for the country's 78 million baby boomers and their parents. Presto will allow those who do not use computers, or who are light computer users, to receive photos, email and more from their families and friends. To fuel this market push, Presto has secured $10 million in venture funding from Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers and Clearstone Venture Partners. Presto has been selected to demonstrate its new digital delivery service at The Wall Street Journal's D4: All Things Digital executive conference, hosted by Walt Mossberg and Kara Swisher. Consumer availability for Presto's debut offering is expected this fall, in time for the holiday selling season. Today there are more than 50 million American adults who do not use computers or have access to the Internet. Beyond this disconnected group, there are also "lightly-connected," infrequent computer users who are not comfortable with email, downloading photos or relying on online photo services. Presto will bridge the gap, enabling the "connected" to send digital content to the "lightly-connected" or "disconnected." Addressing the needs of this specific consumer segment, the Presto Service and HP's printing mailbox emphasize ease of use, convenience and security. "Despite the explosive growth of Internet usage, there remains a startlingly high number of Americans who are not comfortable using existing digital technology," said Joe Beninato, founder and CEO of Presto. "We are thrilled to be working with HP to radically simplify the digital sharing process. Eliminating the technology hurdles for this audience makes it much easier for them to stay connected to family and friends." "When the team at Presto came to us with this new idea for reaching this underserved audience, we were immediately excited about the opportunity," said Mohan Garde, vice president, Emerging Markets and Original Equipment Manufacturer Division, Imaging and Printing Group, HP. "The Presto offering will allow everyone from grandparents to distant friends, regardless of technical know-how, to experience the joy that comes with sharing photos and personal communications." About Presto Services Inc. Presto was founded in 2004 to help families and friends stay connected by making it easier to share digital content. Led by a world-class team of consumer product and technology veterans from AOL, Ofoto/Kodak, Palm, TiVo, WebTV/Microsoft and Yahoo!, Presto is redefining digital delivery through a unique service that prints the digital content you want to enjoy in hand automatically, without a computer or Internet connection. Its first consumer offering developed for baby boomers and their parents will be available in the fall of 2006. The company, based in Mountain View, California, received initial venture funding by Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers and Clearstone Venture Partners.
