Promise Technology Champions New Generation Of Storage Solutions

Computex 2005, Booth 415-418, Data Storage Device Area, Hall 1 -- Promise Technology, Inc., originator and global leader in SATA RAID data protection and storage solutions, displayed its expertise in serial ATA (SATA) RAID at Computex 2005 in Taipei. The technology demonstrations span a wide swath with a full product line of SATA three Gigabit per second (3Gb/s) external storage arrays, RAID controllers, and host bus adapters (HBA) highlighting performance, flexibility and simplicity, with a sneak peek of a new generation of storage solutions designed for enterprise IP and Fibre Channel (FC) SAN requirements.

The focal point for all demonstrations will be support for and exploitation of SATA II solutions, featuring advancements such as 3Gb/s speed, Native Command Queuing (NCQ), staggered spin-up, drive hot swap and disk activity LED headers support.

Among the technologies presented will be high-performance RAID 6 solution for maximum data protection, the industry's first SATA 3Gb/s product line for both performance-intensive and mainstream RAID applications, and iSCSI and FC arrays:

-- RAID 6 maximum reliability demo featuring the NEW high-performance Promise SuperTrak(TM) EX8350 8-port RAID controller with Intel IOP333 processor and PCI-Express host interconnect, with Hitachi SATA 3Gb/s hard drives.
-- 7.5TB iSCSI hardware-accelerated, high-capacity Vtrak(TM) RAID array with 500GB SATA 3Gb/s drives from Hitachi
-- Preview of FC host, SATA 3Gb/s low-profile VTrak RAID array offering LUN masking support for SANs and large clusters; connected to Windows Server 2003 with VDS provider from Promise and QLogic SANSurfer Express software
-- RAID 5 demo of entry level, PCI-X based FastTrak TX4300 RAID controller
-- NEW FastTrak SX8300 price/performance leader RAID controller with Seagate 3Gb/s hard drives
-- Preview of Promise enterprise JBOD storage solution with Fujitsu, Hitachi, Maxtor, and Seagate serial attached SCSI (SAS) hard drives
-- VTrak 12110 SATA 3Gb/s direct-attached RAID array
-- Promise SATA300TX2/TX4 family of SATA 3Gb/s PCI host bus adapters

Strategic Technology Alliance Partner Support

Promise is working closely with leading HBA vendors Alacritech and QLogic, server motherboard vendor Tyan, and hard drive vendors Fujitsu, Hitachi, Maxtor, Samsung, and Seagate to offer seamless support and interoperability with the Promise SATA 3Gb/s line of RAID controllers and storage arrays. The demonstrations will feature QLogic FC and iSCSI adapters, Alacritech iSCSI and GigE adapters, Tyan PCI-Express motherboard, SATA 3Gb/s drives from Samsung, and advanced SAS and SATA 3Gb/s hard drives from Fujitsu, Hitachi, Maxtor, and Seagate.
