QLogic Introduces SMB Storage Networking Solutions for IBM Systems

4 May 2006

QLogic(r) Corp. (Nasdaq:QLGC), the leader in Fibre Channel host bus adapters (HBAs), stackable switches and blade server switches, today announced complete, simple and cost effective storage networking solutions for small and medium businesses (SMBs). Consisting of IBM TotalStorage DS4100 or DS4300 arrays and the QLogic SAN Express(tm) Starter Kit 1000, the SMB SAN solutions can be installed by a technical generalist in minutes. These solutions allow SMBs to consolidate and better manage their storage resources with storage area networks (SANs) in the same manner as large enterprises.

"Small and medium businesses are following the lead of enterprise customers in migrating from the direct attach storage model to storage area networks," said Frank Berry, vice president of marketing, QLogic Corp. "IBM TotalStorage arrays like the DS4100 and 4300, combined with our Starter Kit, provide these businesses with affordable, scalable choices in networked storage."

These easy-to-use solutions, which meet the requirements of the Microsoft Simple SAN Solution for Windows Server 2003 Program, leverage the capabilities of Microsoft Server 2003 Virtual Disk Service (VDS). The VDS infrastructure is designed to enable management of multi-vendor storage devices from a single user interface on Windows, which reduces management complexity.

The QLogic SAN Express Starter Kit 1000 provides small and medium businesses with everything they need to implement and manage their first SAN. The kit's software automates the entire installation and management process with wizards and auto-configuration tools. Also included are the QLogic SANbox Express(tm) 1400 Fibre Channel switch, two SANblade(r) QLA200 HBAs, connectors, cables, drivers, software and a user's guide.

IBM TotalStorage DS4100 and DS4300 arrays complement the QLogic SAN Express Starter Kit to make comprehensive storage networking solutions for SMB customers. The TotalStorage DS4100 scales up to 44 terabytes of SATA disk drive capacity and is well-suited for SMBs that need affordable, entry-level, general purpose or near-line storage. The TotalStorage DS4300 is a mid-level disk system that provides up to 44 terabytes of SATA drive capacity or up to 33 terabytes of high performance Fibre Channel disk storage for on-demand environments.

The IBM/QLogic SAN solutions for small and medium businesses are available now from Tech Data.
