QUALCOMM Announces Sampling of MSM7200 Chipset5 April 2006
QUALCOMM Incorporated (Nasdaq: QCOM), a leading developer and innovator of Code Division Multiple Access (CDMA) and other advanced wireless technologies, today announced the sampling of the Company's Mobile Station Modem(TM) (MSM(TM)) MSM7200(TM) chipset. The MSM7200 solution supports uplink-intensive services such as voice over Internet protocol (VoIP), 3D multi-player wireless gaming, and push-to-multimedia for instant sharing of high-quality video and images. In addition, the MSM7200 chipset enhances enterprise productivity by supporting the sending or receiving of email with large file attachments. "QUALCOMM continues to raise the bar for next-generation wireless technologies around the world as we continually innovate to redefine mobile capabilities and enable the convergence of multiple functions into a single device," said Dr. Sanjay K. Jha, president of QUALCOMM CDMA Technologies. "We are excited to offer our customers the MSM7200 solution that will bring a variety of advanced and compelling multimedia, entertainment and communication technologies to the mobile handset platform." The MSM7200 chipset supports data rates of 7.2 Mbps on the downlink and up to 5.76 Mbps on the uplink for speeds that are faster than wireline broadband connections. Part of the Convergence Platform, the MSM7200 also supports third-party operating systems to further merge consumer electronics features with wireless functionality. The MSM7200 UMTS solution offers the same multimedia capabilities as the MSM7500(TM) solution for CDMA2000(R) 1xEV-DO networks, and is pin-, software API- and RF-compatible to enable manufacturers to leverage existing designs for faster time to market at reduced development cost.
