Seagate Drives Supercharge Novell's SuperLab

18 May 2006

Seagate (NYSE: STX) today announced it has teamed with Novell to support its newly revised SuperLab facility. Novell's SuperLab consists of servers and systems that enable real-world testing of software and hardware products for Novell customers in a real world environment.

The SuperLab is configured with nearly two dozen xSeries servers provided by IBM in various configurations, in addition to several blade and storage arrays. There are 1700 client computers connected to the IBM systems in the SuperLab. The primary disc drives of choice for these systems were Seagate Cheetah 15K.4 models. With the most advanced technology available, the SuperLab was built to provide customers with a wide range of testing options for Novell solutions for multiple deployment scenarios. Many of the largest Fortune 500 companies rely on the SuperLab for testing.

The SuperLab is based on delivering the utmost flexibility for its users. From single-processor based systems, to those that house 32 processors on one system, with various memory and storage configurations, the Novell SuperLab empowers users to test with equipment that they might otherwise not have access to.

"With nearly 10 Terabytes of storage, the Seagate drives at the SuperLab provide the capacity to test on large storage configurations in both standalone servers and clusters," said Matt Thomas, SuperLab manager at Novell. "Novell is committed to ensuring that the products we ship will receive the most robust and extensive level of testing possible. Having the flexibility and power of the SuperLab enables us to test, capture, and fix potential problem scenarios before they are discovered out in the field."

"Teaming with Novell and its SuperLab facility was an important step in continuing to help ensure that Seagate does its part to encourage even stronger innovation and interoperability throughout the industry," said Sherman Black, Seagate general manager, Enterprise Compute. "The SuperLab is built for testing conditions that can be very extreme and so we are especially pleased that Novell has selected Seagate as its trusted hard disc drive storage provider of choice."

Seagate is the worldwide leader in the design, manufacture and marketing of hard disc drives, providing products for a wide-range of Enterprise, Desktop, Mobile Computing, and Consumer Electronics applications. Seagate's business model leverages technology leadership and world-class manufacturing to deliver industry-leading innovation and quality to its global customers, and to be the low cost producer in all markets in which it participates.
