Seagate Hard Drives Are Everywhere at the 2006 Consumer Electronics Show

Seagate Technology (NYSE: STX) marks a milestone at the 2006 International CES Conference this week as it showcases a digital universe of consumer electronic devices and applications powered by hard drives, unveils next-generation branded solutions, and delivers the keynote address at the 2006 Storage Visions Conference. The company also today announced new consumer products, including the first 160GB Portable Hard Drive based on perpendicular recording technology and a 500GB eSATA Pushbutton Back-up Hard Drive.

Seagate's new product announcements at CES 2006 included:


-- Seagate 160GB Portable Hard Drive -- the industry's first portable har rive built with perpendicular recording, an innovative technology tha eagate has employed to deliver the market's highest portable driv apacity in a 2.5- inch form factor. The new portable har rive -- Seagate's second implementation of next-generatio erpendicular technology -- provides 30% more capacity than comparabl ized drives. It leverages the unique properties of perpendicula echnology to deliver more reliable, robust and faster performance,


making it ideal for applications demanding high temperature and rugge perating environments. Seagate's 160GB Portable Drive will ship in th urrent quarter.


-- The 500GB eSATA Pushbutton Back-up Hard Drive -- provides external dat ackup and protection at internal speeds up to a 300MB/s interfac ate -- up to five times faster than existing external storag olutions such as :SB 2.0, 1394a. Seagate eSATA Pushbutton Back-up har rives are advanced, high speed interface solutions for deskto ystems, entry servers or digital video work stations needing fast,


protective single drive speed or even faster, larger, multi-driv apacities. The 500GB eSATA drive will ship in Q2 calendar year 2006.


Demonstrations Emphasize Diversity


At CES 2006 Seagate will demonstrate a wide range of CE products that use Seagate hard drives, including the new Xbox 360, MP3 players, DVR/PVR systems, digital still and video cameras, handheld navigation systems, TV's, cell phones, digital still cameras and digital video cameras and automotive GPS systems. The company will also showcase its branded solution products, including its Pocket Hard Drive, Portable Hard Drive, CompactFlash Photo Hard Drive and Pushbutton Back-up Hard Drives, its Mirra Personal Server as well as future concepts. These offerings will be on display at the CES show from January 5-8, 2006 at the Las Vegas Convention Center, South Hall 3, booth number 31753.


The Future of Hard Drives


Rob Pait, Seagate Director of Global CE Marketing, is scheduled to deliver the keynote address for the 2006 Storage Visions conference, which runs in conjunction with CES on January 7, 2006 at 8:00 a.m. PST at the Las Vegas Convention Center. Pait will address trends and market drivers for CE storage in 2006.
