Symantec To Support Sun Fire X64Systems


Symantec Corp. (Nasdaq: SYMC) today announcedthat it is broadening its support of Sun Microsystemstechnologies to include the Solaris® 10 Operating System(OS) on the AMD Opteron® processor-based Sun Fire® systemswith its VERITAS Storage Foundation, VERITAS Cluster Serverand VERITAS NetBackup client solutions. This expandedsupport will enable Symantec to continue to deliverbest-in-class data centre management and availabilitysolutions on the Solaris 10 OS for any sized enterpriserequiring affordable performance.


The expandedcapabilities demonstrate Symantec and Sun s ongoingcommitment to help customers reduce complexity, improveutilisation and help ensure availability of business- andmission- critical information, while leveraging thecompelling price and performance benefits of the Solaris 10OS on Sun Fire x64 (x86, 64-bit) servers powered by AMDOpteron processors.


Both companies continue to heavilyinvest in engineering and testing focused on development ofthe new product offerings running on an expansive range ofstorage hardware. In addition, Sun and Symantec arecollaborating on joint marketing and sales initiativeshighlighting the benefits of the two companies solutionsand the value they deliver to enterprise customers.

As part of a data center availability solution, VERITASCluster Server provides increased levels of dataavailability for applications, databases and servers as wellas enhanced protection against downtime, whether planned orunplanned, over local, metropolitan or wide area distances.Moreover, VERITAS Cluster Server protects all Solarisenvironments and fully supports high availability solutions.
