TechnoConcepts Continues to Demonstrate Its True Software Radio Technology in Asia20 July 2005
Following the successful first-ever demonstration of its True Software Radio(TM) (TSR) technology to leading multi-national wireless communications companies in South Korea, TechnoConcepts (OTCBB:TCPS) continued to successfully show that its proprietary technology processes wireless signals without the traditional front-end analog and other radio frequency hardware circuitry. The company recently held a series of six demonstrations over a two-day period for leading handset design and manufacturing companies, wireless applications development organizations, and telecommunications systems integrators in China. The demonstrations took place at the Beijing Landmark Towers Hotel in Bejing, China.
TechnoConcepts has developed what is believed to be the first and only commercially viable technology that enables conversion of any raw wireless (analog) signal directly into digital base band data, regardless of frequency or frequency band - a characteristic known as "frequency agility."
At the Chinese demonstrations, TechnoConcepts successfully demonstrated interoperability between differing communications frequencies, an accomplishment that was impossible to achieve using a single wireless receiver until the development of TSR by the Company. In the demonstration, a single TSR receiver chip using only software, with no other analog front-end filters, amplifiers, mixers or other conventional circuitry, was able to receive, translate and process different remote signals between 450MHz and 1.2GHz, including a walkie talkie operating at 465 MHz.
"Techno's TSR receiver chip, which is a single wireless receiver, communicated directly with different devices on multiple frequency bands, using only software to receive, translate and process the different wireless signals," explained Antonio Turgeon, Chairman and CEO of TechnoConcepts. "We believe that, with True Software Radio(TM), the flexibility to communicate with and among different frequencies and devices is virtually unlimited. As with our South Korean demonstration, the Chinese demonstrations were very successful and met with very strong interest from the participants." As a result of the demonstrations, Mr. Turgeon spent an additional week traveling between Beijing and Shanghai discussing business opportunities with various organizations that attended the demonstrations.
TechnoConcepts plans to hold a demonstration of its technology in the United States in the near future.
Details of the TechnoConcepts True Software Radio(TM) Technology
A software radio is a wireless communications device that uses software instead of hardware to perform signal processing. The problem has been to convert radio frequency (RF) analog signals, which cannot be processed by software, to digital data that software can process. Conventional digital wireless devices require extensive front-end processing of the raw analog signal (as received at the antenna), converting it first to an intermediate frequency and then converting it further to base band, where it can finally be processed by software. Software Defined Radio (SDR) Forum has defined the ideal Software Defined Radio as one that eliminates all front-end analog and RF circuits and simply has a low noise amplifier and an RF to digital (RF/D(TM)) converter.
TechnoConcepts' True Software Radio(TM) technology meets that definition by replacing conventional front-end RF and analog circuitry with a combination of patented, proprietary ultra-high performance delta-sigma RF/D(TM) converters and software based digital signal processing. The result is the achievement of a True Software Radio(TM) transceiver, the only transceiver that currently meets the definition of an ideal Software Defined Radio. Further, TechnoConcepts has demonstrated that its True Software Radio(TM) is frequency agile, giving it the ability to simultaneously support any and all wireless standards and protocols, regardless of frequency or frequency band.
The wireless signals from the receiver antenna enter the frequency translation network that is integrated into the architecture of TechnoConcepts' RF/D(TM) converter, achieving direct conversion from analog RF to digital data. The direct frequency conversion capability performs the same function as a front-end and intermediate frequency processing stage without creating the spurious noise products normally associated with a conventional wireless transceiver.
The key to TechnoConcepts' True Software Radio(TM) is its proprietary architecture that simultaneously extracts the modulation from an incoming wireless signal and digitizes it with high resolution. In June 2004, Patent No. 6,748,025 was granted to TechnoConcepts, allowing 19 different claims for the conversion of wireless signals directly into high-speed digital data streams, which are then sorted and demodulated with digital signal processing. This patent is the first of an anticipated family of patents that form the broad basis for the Company's True Software Radio(TM) technology.
About TechnoConcepts, Inc.
TechnoConcepts, Inc. has developed a technology that enables competing wireless standards to understand each other by incorporating a transmitter/receiver (transceiver) based on a computer chip with TechnoConcepts' proprietary True Software Radio(TM) technology to process signals received from the antennae of wireless devices. TechnoConcepts believes that its TSR technology is the first to perform all signal processing via software rather than hardware by converting the received signals immediately from an antenna directly into digital form. When fully commercialized, it is anticipated that this technology will enable cell phone users to enjoy seamless roaming anywhere in the world - police and fire departments will be able to talk to each other regardless of their radio systems - and military forces from various countries will be able to communicate with each other directly. By enabling direct device-to-device communication, the Company believes that its TSR technology provides a cost-effective solution that solves the problem of system incompatibility in a highly fragmented and cost-sensitive communications environment. The Company is presently establishing relationships with a number of major wireless communications companies for the use of its technology in military, consumer and industrial applications.
