Time Warner Telecom Delivers High-Speed Gig E Connectivity to South Carolina's Providence Hospitals29 March 2006
Time Warner Telecom Inc., (Nasdaq: TWTC), a leading provider of managed voice and data networking solutions for businesses, today announced the installation of high-speed, gigabit Ethernet data services at two Providence Hospitals in Columbia. Providence Hospitals are using Time Warner Telecom's metro Ethernet based Switched Native LAN (SNLAN) service to provide connectivity between its downtown and northeast hospital locations. "We chose Time Warner Telecom because of their strong institutional and service reputation," said Mark J. Dowell, director of telecommunications for Providence Hospitals. "They could provide and guarantee the service within our technical specifications and pricing. The 1 Gbps capacity meets our data movement needs and supports crucial backups in the event of a system failure at either campus." The installation of Time Warner Telecom's switched Native LAN enables synchronous mirroring of medical, enterprise and billing data at both locations in support of data protection and disaster recovery initiatives. The low latency of the SNLAN service met the hospitals' private HP Storage Area Network (SAN) solution's specific technical requirements. Additionally, Time Warner Telecom is providing 100 Mbps metro Ethernet connectivity to the Providence Heart Institute allowing seamless connections to the two hospitals and 10 Mbps Ethernet Internet Service (EIS) to the two hospital facilities for core applications including interfacing with industry medical entities and keeping current on the latest research and best practices. "Hospitals like Providence need the ability to backup, transport and protect patient information and exam records to ensure continuity of care should a system go down," said Tejay Beauparlant, vice president and general manager for Time Warner Telecom in Columbia. "Our metro Ethernet based switched native LAN solution delivered over a secure, fully-redundant network supports this kind of high data-intensive environment."
