Tocquigny Helps Drive Leads for AMD in 64 Seconds; 'The 64 Second Film Contest' Provides Creative Outlet for Aspiring Filmmakers26 March 2006
Tocquigny, an Austin-based advertising agency and measurement consultancy, recently faced the challenge of generating consumer demand for the AMD Athlon(TM) 64 X2 dual-core processor. Instead of simply implementing the standard marketing strategy of targeting gear heads with all the technical specs of an advanced new product, AMD and Tocquigny asked the question, "What is Waitlessness?" That question led to the creation of "The 64 Second Film Contest," an innovative initiative that transformed the creativity of ordinary users into powerful marketing muscle for AMD. Contestants were challenged to express the concept of "Waitlessness" in a 64-second short film to showcase how AMD's new processors let users create more, while spending less time waiting for computers to render videos and perform other multimedia tasks. Tocquigny leveraged the competitive spirit of digital media enthusiasts across the country to create what is essentially a volunteer "marketing team" to promote the AMD Athlon 64 X2 dual-core processor. "We were thoroughly impressed by the creativity and talent of the contest submissions," said Tocquigny's chief executive officer, Yvonne Tocquigny. "The lure of filmmaking piqued people's interest and they enthusiastically volunteered their time and effort to champion a company and product they deeply care about." According to the winning entrants, "Waitlessness" is creativity. Grand prize winner John Robson of Canoga Park, CA, captured the feeling of "Waitlessness" with love at first sight. Another winner depicted the concept as abstract perceptions of time. Steven Bastyr of Los Angeles, CA, used his second-place film "Change" to demonstrate the power and ability to break free with AMD's dual-core technology. "Digital media enthusiasts love to create and share their unique vision with others," said Tracey Brown, director of worldwide consumer marketing programs, AMD. "This contest provided a forum to showcase their masterpieces. Moreover, a large number of people entered engaging, awe-inspiring films and became excited about our AMD Athlon 64 X2 dual-core processors at the same time, which was our ultimate goal." About the AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual-Core Processor Family AMD Athlon 64 X2 dual-core processors, designed for desktop PCs, can improve overall digital media performance over similar single-core processors by an average of 34 percent, with performance improvements over 80 percent on certain benchmarks.
