Toronto External Contracts Inquiry Ends Hearings

The Toronto External Contracts Inquiry (TECI) is
scheduled to end evidentiary hearings today (Thursday, Jan. 27, 2005). The
Inquiry is the second of two judicial inquiries created by Toronto City
Council in 2002.

Today's hearing is to start at 10:30 a.m. at the East York Civic Centre,
850 Coxwell Avenue, Toronto.
Hearings for the first inquiry, the Toronto Computer Leasing Inquiry
(TCLI), were completed on September 29, 2004.
At the conclusion of today's hearing, Commissioner Denise Bellamy will
make a brief closing statement that will be posted on the Inquiry's web page:
www.torontoinquiry.ca
Replies to the TCLI closing submissions will be published on this web
page early Friday morning. Closing submissions for the TECI are due on
February 28.
Commissioner Bellamy will make her recommendations in one report. She
expects to deliver it to the Mayor and to City Council after Labour Day.
The mandate of the Toronto External Contracts Inquiry was to investigate
a number of issues related to consultants retained by the City of Toronto and
the former City of North York, and the purchase of computer hardware.

The mandate of the Toronto Computer Leasing Inquiry was to inquire into
all aspects of leasing contracts for computers and related software between
the City of Toronto and MFP Financial Services and between the City of Toronto
and Oracle Corporation. The Commissioner was asked to inquire into the history
of the contracts and their impact on the ratepayers of Toronto.
