Unique Data Erasure Solution to Minimize Legal Risk Associated with Retiring Computer Hardware and Hard Drive Data11 August 2005
Benchmark Technology Group, a leading provider of branch automation solutions and technology management services, announced the release of Remote Erasure Management (REM), a unique data erasure solution that makes it possible to schedule or immediately erase computers and hard drive data from a remote location.
REM is a result of a strategic alliance formed in January, 2005 between Benchmark Technology Group and Marietta, Ga.-based Absolute Data Security, LLC, the U.S. distributor of Blancco(R) brand data erasure products. The subsequent product offering, REM, enables Benchmark Technology Group customers to schedule remote or immediate erasure of data from hardware, mitigating security risks.
"Today's businesses are taking extensive precautions to protect sensitive customer data, which is constantly under attack by identity thieves," said Jack Malinowski, CTO of Benchmark Technology Group. "It is vital that personal computers have their data electronically shredded prior to leaving company premises, as there is exposure in transporting and storing systems for redeployment, donations, or recycling. The ability to verify desktops have been properly scrubbed with a comprehensive audit trail provides an added level of security and control."
There are various levels of erasure available with REM, including several Department of Defense (DoD) and evolving global standards. REM integrates with existing business process systems to offer secure administration that determines who at an organization can deploy or initiate remote erasure. The product also includes detailed, auditable reporting and PC documentation of both the complete deployment process and of the mechanical erasure with hardware inventory - legal liability is safeguarded through REM, relieving companies of that burden.
"Remote Erasure Management is the most advanced data erasure concept on the market," said Morgan Cederblom, CEO of Absolute Data Security, LLC. "This is the first remote control for data erasure - a one-of-a kind solution to the serious threat of corporate information loss and identity theft. By providing Benchmark Technology Group with the most stringent data erasure available from Blancco - the same product used by the U.S. Army - their customers are assured peace of mind from any liability involving privacy hazards."
"Failure to keep information out of the wrong hands can lead to serious privacy violations, resulting in costly legal liability and a loss of trust among customers," said Malinowski.
