Virtium Introduces Very High Density DRAM Memory Modules at Intel Developer Forum7 October 2006
Virtium Technology Inc., manufacturer of memory products for specialized computers in demanding environments, today announced its new line of Very High Density (VHD) DRAM memory modules. Designed for specific computing applications in non-traditional environments such as embedded computing, military systems, storage, telecommunications and networking, these VHD solutions offer significantly greater densities in small form-factors. "Virtium's new VHD DDR2 product family provides customers with a higher level of memory capacity, performance and competitive advantage," said Phan Hoang, director of research and development at Virtium. "Our development of these very high density modules is a direct result of the service needs we see design engineers and procurement professionals facing daily." Virtium was first in the memory industry to ship DDR2 ECC SODIMMs and has now reached another milestone by providing VHD ECC SODIMMs with densities up to 4GB. "Embedded system designers need to balance density, function and physical space, and can benefit from greater choices in readily available, high-density memory solutions," said Jim Pappas, director of initiative marketing for Intel Corporation. "Specialized DDR2 technology provides increased memory capacity and strong performance benefits for non-traditional computing applications." This effort will create specifications and design files to assure memory compatibility for solutions provided by the various memory vendors. These products are geared for ATCA/AMC, and other embedded Single Board Computer (SBC) applications. Virtium also sells DDR2 4GB registered DIMMs, DDR2 2GB mini-RDIMMs and Very Low Profile (VLP) form factors for DDR2 2GB registered DIMMs and DDR2 1GB mini-RDIMMs. Virtium's family of VHD DRAM modules are fully RoHS compliant and available now.
