Xi Graphics, Inc. Releases Graphics Drivers for ATI FireMV Cards

Xi Graphics, Inc. announced today that it has added Linux and Solaris X Window System ("X") graphics driver support for ATI's FireMV 2400 and FireMV 2200 graphics cards to its Accelerated-X(TM) Summit Series product line. Both PCI and PCIe versions of the cards, as well as 32-bit and 64-bit x86 computer platforms, are supported. Demos, including Xi Graphics' Accelerated-X proprietary X servers, graphics drivers, and kernel modules are available through the Xi Graphics' Web site -- http://www.xig.com -- for free download and testing.

The ATI FireMV cards can support multiple monitors from a single card (the model 2400 can support up to four monitors). Available Summit Series support is contained in the Multi-head (MX) Series and the SingleLogicalScreen (HX) Series, both of which are targeted at wall displays containing up to 16 monitors.

The HX Series allows a single image to be "stretched" across multiple monitors driven by multiple graphics chips and/or multiple graphics cards, whereas the MX Series only allows an image generated by a single FireMV graphics chip to be stretched across two monitors driven by that chip.

In either Series, the displays on all monitors are fully hardware-accelerated to the extent of the hardware capabilities on the graphics cards, making the Xi Graphics' drivers the fastest UNIX(R) and Linux graphics software available for these cards. Both Series can also support two xscreens per graphics chip (allowing two applications to each have their own monitor while sharing a single graphics chip). Additional software features such as Video Window, Rotate, and Touchscreen are also available for the FireMV cards.

The Summit Series is high-performance, high-quality graphics sub-system UNIX software designed for commercial use where ease of installation and configuration as well as stable, trouble-free operation are required. Despite the flexibility available in the Summit Series software, installation is easy, and with the standard Accelerated-X Graphical Setup utility, configuring is straightforward with either Solaris or Linux.

Each Summit graphics driver is available in demo mode for download from the Xi Graphics Web site for compatibility and performance testing on target systems. Users can purchase Summit License Keys on-line which, when installed, converts a demo into permanent product. A license is required for each computer on which an Accelerated-X Summit driver is used in non-demo mode. Prices for Summit License Keys vary by Series, with the MX Series for 16 monitor support on FireMV starting at US$159.00 each. Quantity discounts are available.
