Zetera to Package DataPlow File System Technology with High-Performance, Low-Cost Storage Solutions26 May 2005
Zetera Corp. announced today a strategic alliance with DataPlow Inc. to bundle DataPlow's SAN-based file system software with Zetera-enabled network storage products. The combination of the DataPlow file system software with Zetera storage technology provides unprecedented levels of features, performance and ease of use in affordable network storage solutions.
The first Zetera-enabled storage devices with DataPlow file system software will ship this summer. In June, NETGEAR will ship Storage Central(TM), a retail network storage system for the consumer/residential market. Later in the summer, StorCase and Bell Microproducts will ship Zetera-based storage arrays for the business market.
"Our alliance with DataPlow underscores Zetera's commitment to deliver high-end features and performance without the high-end price tag," said Chuck Cortright, Zetera president and CEO. "Just like Grand Prix race car technology migrated to family sedans, Zetera and DataPlow are bringing enterprise level data storage performance to consumers and smaller businesses."
Zetera's network storage technology virtualizes storage at the IP layer, and in doing so, eliminates the physical transport gateways and disk controllers that have made storage area networks so costly. Zetera-based solutions scale smoothly from consumer applications to massive data center arrays. By using IP as the storage fabric, data replication, performance and reliability are delivered without custom and costly specialized hardware such as RAID controllers.
DataPlow SAN-based file systems enable file sharing at unparalleled levels of performance and scalability by optimally managing and transporting each type of computer data. Users working on different computers can simultaneously read and write shared files without sacrificing performance or manageability. DataPlow file systems outperform conventional server-based and NAS-based file sharing approaches and create data storage environments that are easier to manage and less costly to expand than conventional technologies.
"Zetera's storage architecture is an ideal platform to run DataPlow file sharing," said DataPlow's CEO Steven Soltis, Ph.D. "The combination of Zetera's streamlined storage architecture and DataPlow's efficient file system architecture enables our products to encompass the entire spectrum of computing environments, ranging from family photo archiving at home to seismic processing in a supercomputer laboratory."
